I'd like to write this message to tell everyone not to listen to bad reviews about this film. Sure there were a few cheesy, dramatic scenes, but what do you expect? It's a teen romance, not an adult film. For anyone that is a teenage girl or a middle-aged woman that has read the book, you should love the movie. I saw the midnight showing last night, and it was absolutely fantastic. The lighting was perfect, the actors were perfect, and even though the build-up time for Edward and Bella's relationship went too fast, they had to do it. It takes a few hundred pages in the book for their relationship to develop, and they still had other parts of the book, many parts, to put into the movie. They had to make it simple but thorough, and they did a great job of that. Secondly, Stewart looked exactly how I pictured Bella, and she really did do a grade job interpreting Bella, even if her acting got a little weird at some points. Pattinson looked fabulous, and he was mysterious and unknown but perfect.
I'm a grown up and a reasonable man, so I have no problem in understanding when a movie is "for girls, by girls. But using vampires or any other popular character type, you have to respect the basic standards. Vampires don't sparkle in the sun, they die. Vampires have fangs. If I'm seeing a movie about vampires and werewolfs, I want to SEE vampires and werewolfs. (AT LEAST go to the dollar shop and buy some plastic fangs) Sure, girls reading this review might disagree because I'm a man. But how would you feel if someone made a Barbie movie and give Barbie a machine gun. Betrayed? Ripped off? Directors would be killing the very essence of the character. And thats EXACTLY how I feel here. It just doesn't work. And I'm being extremely generous with this review. I could go on an endless rant but I guess the lack of stars speak for itself.
